I finally made it to Europe... I got into Frankfurt only to get my other flight delayed for a few hours so I got to florence very late. Frankfurt airport was extremely large but the German women my age wore these chunky high heels that sort of bubbled around the toe. I have no idea how they were able to walk up and down all those stairs and get through security with those on.
When my flight was finally ready I was actually at an underground gate so we took a mini bus up and across the landing strips to where our plane was. It was the first time I've gotten to walk up stairs into the plane. Amazingly where there were patches of grass (in between runways) there were HUGE clusters of bunnies running around, so cute!
Ok so then I got to Florence, which is Gorgeous, and took a taxi straight to the hotel but of course hotel.com messed up and the hotel didn't actually have a room for me, which turned out for the better because it was a sketchy looking place and the hotel Nil that I actually stayed at was amazing. The next day it was raining, but I took the bus to Siena finally!
My room is amazing (pictures are going to be in the next post) and my roommate is extremely nice and we get along great, her name is Michelle. By that time I had not eaten very much (I've realized that they eat much smaller portions than Americans) so Michelle and John and I walked into the center. IT IS SO BEAUTIFUL HERE!!! Everywhere I look I want to take pictures but I'm trying very hard to not look like a tourist (everyone talks to me in Italian at first so that is a good sign!) but I will wander around this weekend and take pictures.
We got gelato for lunch =) then walked to the Duomo but it was raining so hard we had to go back in. At night Michelle and I got dinner with Nick and Natasha at a cute restaurant where I had my first legal alcoholic beverage, and the best pasta I've ever had. Dinner is slow in Italy, there is no rush, and everyone walks around for hours after.
The four of us walked to the other mini residence to meet up with some other people afterwards. Everyone that I meet says "O! your Kaitlyn! Your that girl that got stuck!" so I've repeated that story way too many times now. But then we all went to a Pub and met up with our landlord Fabio who then took us to the only "booty shaking moosic place" in Siena. He had to teach us girls how to say "He is my brother" in Italian just in case a creepy albanian man hit on us. This morning we had orientation which was entertaining but extremely long. Everyone in the program is extremely nice and easy to get along with.
Michelle, Natasha, and I went to the super market after to get food to make ourselves which was an experience in it self. Apparently you have to bag your own food which I learned unfortunately while a bunch of angry Italians waited for me...
That is just a quick summary of everything so far. Now it is time for the daily nap =)
I'm putting all the pictures in a different post.
Ciao
